Reinier De Ridder announces that his fight in October is off

ONE Championship Double Champion Reinier De Ridder noted that his scheduled fight with Shamil Abdulaev is off. The news was first reported by SCMP MMA and it was later confirmed by Reinier De Ridder on his Instagram page.

He also noted that the team is looking for a new date and a new opponent.

“The October fight is off guys. We are looking at a new date and victim. Life is still good; the belt is still big. Stay humble and keep hustling you f**ks,” De Ridder noted on his Instagram page.

De Ridder currently holds a professional MMA record of 16-0 to his name and is coming off a win against Vitaly Bigdash. Prior to this, he had also secured a win over ONE Welterweight champion Kiamrian Abbasov.

De Ridder had also expressed his interest in fighting ONE Heavyweight Champion Arjan Bhullar and said that he will be going for the third title if he is presented with the opportunity to do so.

Shamil Abdulaev, on the other hand, was set to make his ONE Championship debut against Reinier De Ridder. He holds a record of 13-1 to his name and is on a three-fight winning streak at the moment. Shamil has fought in promotions like UMMA, IPFC, WFCA among others during his run and has been competing in professional MMA since 2012.

He also had and extensive amateur background as well having competed in the WMMAA World Championships prior to the merger between WMMAA and IMMAF.

The fight between Shamil and De Ridder was set to happen in Malaysia. The card also had the title fight between John Lineker and Fabricio Andrade which will now serve as the new main event for the time being.
