Puja Tomar Suffers First-Round Submission Loss to Shi Ming

Indian MMA star Puja Tomar suffered a setback at the opening rounds of Road to UFC Season 5, falling to China's Shi Ming via first-round submission at the Galaxy Arena in Macau on Thursday.

The strawweight contest served as the final bout of the second day of Road to UFC action, with Shi Ming delivering a dominant grappling performance in front of her home crowd. The Chinese fighter secured the victory through an arm-triangle choke at the 3:12 mark of Round 1.

Tomar looked to establish her striking early in the contest, but Shi Ming quickly closed the distance and initiated the grappling exchanges. After successfully taking the fight to the canvas, Shi maintained control and methodically worked toward a submission finish. She eventually advanced to side control and locked in the arm-triangle choke, forcing Tomar to tap.

The victory marked Shi Ming's first UFC win on home soil and sparked a huge celebration among the local fans in attendance. Known as “Dr. Sleep,” Shi showcased her grappling skills throughout the brief contest and became the latest former Road to UFC tournament winner to secure a victory inside the Octagon.

The impressive finish provided a memorable conclusion to two days of exciting Road to UFC Season 5 opening-round action in Macau, while Tomar will now look to regroup and bounce back from the defeat.
