India was assured of six additional medals at the U22 Asian Boxing Championships 2025 on Monday after a dominant day of competition in Bangkok, Thailand.
Priya (women’s 60kg), Paranjal Yadav (women’s 70kg), Harsh (men’s 60kg), Neeraj (men’s 75kg), Rockey Chaudhary (men’s 85kg) and Ishan Kataria (men’s 90+kg) all advanced to the semifinals with decisive wins in their respective quarterfinal bouts.
Priya opened India’s medal surge with a unanimous 5-0 victory over Japan’s Sarii Kokufu, while Harsh followed suit, defeating Mongolia’s Munkh-Erdene Erdenebold by the same scoreline.
Paranjal Yadav became India’s third medalist of the morning session after edging out China’s Mengge Zhang in a fiercely contested bout. The match went back and forth, with both boxers showing aggressive intent, but Yadav emerged victorious in a 3-2 split decision.
The U19 and U22 Asian Boxing Championships are being held simultaneously and offer a platform for India’s emerging boxing talent to compete against top contenders from across Asia. India has sent a 40-member squad—20 boxers in each age group—with a blend of established names and promising newcomers from the domestic circuit.
India had already guaranteed two medals on Sunday in the U22 category, with Bhawna Sharma (women’s 48kg) and Yatri Patel (women’s 57kg) securing semifinal berths.
During the evening session, Neeraj added to India’s tally by overpowering Jun-Zhang Lin of Chinese Taipei with a 5-0 decision to reach the semifinals.
Rockey Chaudhary outclassed Kazakhstan’s Azatbek Zholdaskhan with a well-executed tactical performance, winning 4-1, while Ishan Kataria completed the medal sweep for the day. Kataria’s bout against Iran’s Seyedyousef Mousavi was stopped by the referee, sending him into the semifinals.
Out of the seven Indian boxers competing Monday, only Sagar suffered a defeat, falling in the men’s 55kg quarterfinal.
India now has eight semifinalists assured of medals in the U22 division as the tournament progresses.
