ONE Championship has confirmed that undefeated Turkish fighter Shamil Erdogan will take on record-breaking Paul Elliott in the main event of ONE Fight Night 48 on Saturday, October 3, from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, in a collision that could determine the next heavyweight title challenger.
Erdogan, 36, is one of the most complete and dangerous heavyweights in ONE Championship. The Kremost Fight Club and Tiger Muay Thai product was born and based in Dagestan and carries a perfect 13-0 MMA record and a 5-0 ONE record into the contest, with all five promotional victories coming via finish.
Elliott, 34, has found his stride at the right time. After a difficult promotional start, he has responded in emphatic fashion, stringing together back-to-back knockout victories. His most recent outing at ONE Fight Night 44 in June produced one of the most remarkable finishes of the year, a six-second head-kick knockout of Regan Upshaw that set a record and immediately placed his name in the heavyweight conversation.
The featherweight Muay Thai division has been searching for its next contender, and ONE Fight Night 48 gives two fighters the perfect platform to make a case. Luke Lessei, 30, returns to action following his unanimous decision win over Mohamed Younes Rabah at ONE Fight Night 45 in July.
His 9-3 career record and a track record of taking on the division's best make him one of the most credible names in the featherweight Muay Thai ranks, and a statement win over Charlie Guest would strengthen his title credentials considerably.
Guest, 30, made the most explosive possible ONE debut at ONE Fight Night 44 earlier this year, securing a TKO victory that turned heads across the featherweight division.
