Nico Carrillo is not done collecting titles. The reigning ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion takes his first step toward two-sport glory when he makes his promotional kickboxing debut against Chinese star Zhou Jiaqiang at ONE Fight Night 46 on Saturday, August 15.
The 27-year-old Scotsman has wasted no time in setting his sights on new horizons since being elevated to undisputed ONE Featherweight Muay Thai World Champion in July.
The Deachkalek Muay Thai Academy and Hickman Brothers product carries a 30-4 striking record and a 7-1 ONE slate with six finishes into his kickboxing bow, and the fire for more titles is already burning brightly.
"The focus remains the same. I'm very excited to make my kickboxing debut. I'm excited to show the fans that I can do kickboxing and go on to conquer it as well down the road," he said.
Standing across from him will be Zhou, a 26-year-old talented striker making his ONE debut. The Xingwu Innovation Fight Club product carries a 20-6 career striking record into the contest, stepping onto the global stage for the first time against one of the most dangerous finishers in the featherweight division.
Carrillo, however, is not approaching this debut with any degree of caution. He has already mapped out exactly how the night ends.
"It's going to be the Nico show once more. This one will be done with a knockout. A finish in round two with a left head kick," he explained.
The confidence is vintage Carrillo, the same unapologetic belief in his own finishing ability that has defined every step of his rise through the featherweight division.
But this kickboxing debut is not just about one fight. It is the first move in a carefully considered plan to add a second ONE World Title to a collection that the Scottish star fully intends to grow.
"I'm already a ONE World Champion, and the next obvious step is to become a two-sport World Champion — kickboxing or MMA alongside Muay Thai. For now, it's one step at a time," he added.
