Nazareth Lalthazuala has earned his place on the ONE Championship stage, and the moment it became official moved his entire community to tears.
The unbeaten Indian MMA star takes on Gilbert Nakatani in a strawweight MMA contest at ONE Fight Night 47 on Saturday, September 5, live from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand, as a fully contracted ONE athlete for the first time.
The 25-year-old from Mizoram has built a perfect 8-0 career record with five finishes. His ONE debut remains one of the most explosive in recent memory, demolishing his opponent in just 17 seconds to announce his arrival on the global stage. Three consecutive ONE victories followed, and a TKO win in June earned the southpaw a US$100,000 main roster contract that changed everything for a young fighter whose parents work as farmers and whose family sacrificed to support his dream.
"This contract is what I have been hoping for my whole life. So this contract is really precious to me, and I'm really grateful," he said.
The scale of the achievement only truly hit home when Lalthazuala shared the news with those who matter most.
What happened next is a moment he will carry with him forever.
"It was beyond my imagination, so it still feels like a dream. When they heard about the contract, my parents were crying out of happiness, and all the neighbors and family were really happy for me," he explained.
The ripple effect of Lalthazuala's rise extends far beyond his own household.
In Mizoram and beyond, "The Northstar" has already become a symbol of what is possible for young Indian fighters with ambitions in martial arts, and the fighter is deeply moved by the responsibility that comes with that status.
"There are some people who came from other states to be an MMA fighter because of me, and there are also kids who want to be an MMA fighter just because of me," he added.
