Khamzat Chimaev might not have been able to compete at UFC Saudi Arabia on Saturday night, but he was certainly paying close attention to the action.
Originally set to face Robert Whittaker in the main event in Riyadh, Chimaev had to withdraw due to a severe illness. In his place, Ikram Aliskerov, who has only lost to Chimaev, stepped up on short notice. Unfortunately for Aliskerov, his night ended in disappointment as he was knocked out in the first round by Whittaker after being rocked early on. Following this victory, Whittaker is aiming to be the backup for the UFC 305 headliner in August, while Chimaev remains confident about his own prospects.
Chimaev has not fought since October last year, when he claimed a significant win against Kamaru Usman. His prolonged absence from the octagon continues, mirroring a similar hiatus following his victory over Kevin Holland at UFC 279. Despite these setbacks, Chimaev is eager for a matchup with Whittaker, delivering a bold message on social media.

In a post on X, translated from Russian, Chimaev wrote: “Congratulations @robwhittakermma, we are not done!” He also offered encouragement to Aliskerov, his former opponent, saying, “I wish you a speedy recovery @ikram_aliskerov keep your head up my brother.”
