Jonathan Haggerty is already a world champion. Now he has his sights set on Hollywood.
The reigning ONE Bantamweight Kickboxing World Champion defends his belt against Hiroki Akimoto at ONE SAMURAI 4 on October 17, but the British star's ambitions extend well beyond the ring.
"The General" has been making the rounds at movie premieres in London, and the experience has sparked a genuine appetite for the silver screen in the Team Underground and Knowlesy Academy product. The man who carries a 24-5 striking record and a 10-3 ONE slate into his next title defense has already begun thinking about what a life beyond martial arts might look like, and the possibilities excite him.
"I'm enjoying going to all these premieres, so if there's a day I get the offer to become part of a big movie, I'd never say never. I'd love to be part of a big Hollywood movie," he said.
Beyond acting in someone else's story, Haggerty believes his own journey deserves its own cinematic treatment.
"One million percent — I'd be happy to have one about my career when I call it a day. It should perhaps be one about my rise to the World Championship. That would be sweet," he explained.
The casting decision, naturally, has already been made in Haggerty's mind. He has identified the perfect actor to bring his story to life, and has a role in mind for his younger brother Freddie Haggerty, who also competes as a Muay Thai fighter in ONE Championship.
"Daniel Craig will be the perfect guy who can play my role. I'll get Freddie [Haggerty] in there too so he can act as the younger version of myself. As for how the movie ends, I'd love for it to end with a knockout," he added.
