Janet Todd Wins Interim Atomweight Muay Thai Gold

Janet Todd scored a unanimous decision victory over Lara Fernandez to claim the ONE Interim Atomweight World Title and become a two-sport ONE World Champion at ONE 159: De Ridder vs. Bigdash on 22 July at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. 

After five rounds of intense action, “JT” was declared the winner of the co-main event matchup, earning the gold and extending her win streak inside the Circle to seven. 

Todd displayed her incredible skill set throughout the first two rounds of action. She worked her way around the Circle and peppered her debuting opponent with punches and kicks that prevented the Spaniard from gaining momentum. 

Fernandez seemed to come alive in the third round, however, and “JT” looked to be on the back foot for a short time. But in true champion spirit, she regained her form as the bout entered the championship rounds, and when the final bell sounded, the judges awarded her the win thanks to her overall work rate and pressure. 

Todd now holds belts in both atom weight Muay Thai and kickboxing. The American star defeated Stamp Fairtex for the kickboxing gold in 2020, earning redemption for her debut defeat to the Thai star a year earlier.

Next up for "JT" will likely be a unification bout with reigning atomweight Muay Thai queen Allycia Hellen Rodrigues. 

Rodrigues took some time away from the Circle to focus on motherhood, but she has made it clear she is ready to fight again, and a matchup with Todd would be a fascinating clash of styles. 

The Brazilian dynamo, known for her superior abilities in the clinch, defeated Stamp via split decision in August 2020 to earn the divisional strap.

But the ONE Atomweight Muay Thai World Champion should expect to be tested against Todd, who has proven herself to be a well-rounded fighter.
