Former UFC Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov was recently posed with the question of Islam Makhachev moving to the UFC Welterweight division.

The Russian MMA star noted that it is a bit too early to say about the same but went on to add that Islam used to do good against Leon Edwards when the two used to spar in the gym.

“Too early to say. He hasn’t even got the 155 Belt yet. But if he gets it and defends it a few times, Islam in his best shape walks around at 178.5 lbs. Who knows. He used to spar with Leon Edwards a lot in 2015-2016 by the way. Everything that happens in the gym, stays in the gym but Islam did really good back then,” Khabib said speaking to the reporters.

Leon Edwards recently captured the UFC Welterweight title from Kamaru Usman. Edwards knocked out Usman with just 50 seconds to go in the fifth round of the UFC 278 main event to become the new World champion.

The result proved to be a huge shocker for the entire MMA community and Khabib also noted that he was a bit upset and shocked to see Kamaru Usman getting knocked out.

In the same interview, he addressed about the fact that fighters cannot stay on top for a long time and addressed the example of Kamaru Usman.

“Look at Kamaru, he started shining a bit later but still with every single title defence he went slightly down. Time is passing by, our human body is running out of resources. So no matter what, a human being can’t stay in top notch shape for a very long time,” Khabib added.
