Alexa Grasso shocked the whole world last day when she submitted Valentina Shevchenko to become the new UFC Flyweight champion.
In the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Grasso successfully used a rear-naked choke to steal the women's flyweight title away from the long-reigning dominant champion after Shevchenko made a mistake in a closely contested battle.
The astounding result makes Grasso the third newly crowned Mexican champion of 2023 and the first woman born in Mexico to ever win a UFC belt.

Over three rounds, Grasso (16-3 MMA, 8-3 UFC) had somewhat of a moral victory because Shevchenko (23-4 MMA, 12-3 UFC) was forced to use takedowns and grappling, which probably gave her two of the first three rounds.
Then in Round 4, it happened. Shevchenko fired a spinning back kick in the last minute that missed, allowing Grasso to leap on her back and bring the fight to the mat after they had spent the majority of the round standing and trading jabs.
As a result, Shevchenko was forced to tap out with 26 seconds left in the fourth as Grasso continued to work hard for the finish. Grasso said that the outcome was not random.
Shevchenko's strong championship reign came to an end as a consequence of the defeat, which marked her first defeat at flyweight since moving down from bantamweight in 2018.
There were a lot of UFC fighters in attendance at the event and the reaction of these fighters were caught on camera as well when Grasso captured the gold. You can see the video below.
