Diana Irena Belbița, born on June 26, 1996, is a Romanian MMA Fighter who competes in the Strawweight division of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).
The beginning of her Martial Arts journey
With a background in kickboxing, judo, Kempo, kickboxing, and karate, Belbiță brings a diverse skill set to the octagon. Throughout her career, she has achieved notable accomplishments, including being a former world and European kempo champion and challenging for championships in RXF and KSW.
Belbiță's martial arts journey began in 2014 when she transitioned into professional fighting. She quickly made a name for herself, winning the titles of European and World champion in kempo. Despite her success, she faced financial difficulties early on in her career, highlighting the challenges many fighters encounter in pursuing their dreams.
In 2019, Belbiță gained additional recognition when she appeared on the show "Ferma." This reality-based program featured celebrities living together on a farm, providing viewers with a glimpse into their lives for three months. The exposure from the show further boosted Belbiță's popularity.
Entering the world of mixed martial arts, Belbiță compiled an impressive 13-4 record on the European MMA scene. Notably, she faced tough opponents, including UFC and Bellator MMA veterans such as Cristina Stanciu, Ariane Lipski (who defeated her via a first-round armbar for the inaugural KSW Women's Flyweight Championship at KSW 39: Colosseum), and Iony Razafiarison.
Debut and fights in the UFC
Belbiță made her UFC debut on October 18, 2019, at UFC on ESPN: Reyes vs. Weidman, where she faced Molly McCann. Although she showcased her skills, Belbiță lost the fight via unanimous decision, but she remained determined to continue her journey in the UFC.
In her second UFC bout, Belbiță faced Liana Jojua at UFC on ESPN: Kattar vs. Ige on July 16, 2020. Unfortunately, she suffered a defeat via an armbar submission in the first round, facing the setback with resilience and determination.
Belbiță bounced back in her third UFC fight, taking on Hannah Goldy at UFC on ESPN: Sandhagen vs. Dillashaw on July 24, 2021. Displaying her skills and determination, she secured a unanimous decision victory, demonstrating her potential and ability to compete at the highest level.
Continuing her UFC journey, Belbiță faced Gloria de Paula on February 19, 2022, at UFC Fight Night: Walker vs. Hill. Despite her efforts, she lost the fight via unanimous decision, reminding her of the challenges that come with fighting in a highly competitive division.
Scheduled to face Loma Lookboonmee at UFC Fight Night 210 on September 17, 2022, Belbiță, unfortunately, had to withdraw due to undisclosed reasons. She was replaced by Denise Gomes in the matchup.
Belbiță's most recent bout took place on June 10, 2023, at UFC 289, where she faced Maria Oliveira. In a competitive fight, she showcased her skills and secured a well-deserved unanimous decision victory, adding another win to her professional record.
