Charles Oliveira gets the job done against Islam, predicts Michael Chandler
05 August 2022Michael Chandler feels that Charles Oliveira has what it takes to take out Islam Makhachev when the two fight at UFC 280.
Speaking to MMA Junkie recently, Chandler noted that Islam is indeed a future UFC Champion but went with the Brazilian when he was asked to predict the fight.
“Charles Oliveira. I think Charles Oliveira gets the job done. I think Islam, not that he is got great, not that he is not highly touted, not that he is not going to be a future champion — but there should be no reason why he should ever be a favourite in that fight against Charles Oliveira,” Chandler said.
He further went on to add that Oliveira deserves respect for what he has done in the past few years.
“What Charles Oliveira has done over the last couple of fights, finishing everybody he is fighting — is nothing short of amazing. The resurgence of Charles Oliveira’s career from relatively unknown, somewhat up and down, can’t be relied upon journeyman to now legitimate No.1 lightweight on the planet, has been something to behold. So put some respect on Charles Oliveira’s name. I think Charles Oliveira goes out there and honestly think he finishes him,” he added.
The fight between Charles Oliveira and Islam Makhachev is set to happen at UFC 280 on 22 October 2022 in Abu Dhabi.
Michael Chandler vs. Dustin Poirier next?
As for Chandler, he is reportedly set to fight Dustin Poirier next. Chandler is coming off a win against Tony Ferguson and is 2-2 in the UFC at the moment with wins over Ferguson and Dan Hooker when he suffered losses against Charles Oliveira and Justin Gaethje.
Dustin Poirier, on the other hand, is coming off a loss against Charles Oliveira and will be looking to get back to winning ways when he fights Michael Chandler. Poirier was on a three-fight winning streak prior to his loss against Oliveira.
