Just two months after BRAVE Combat Federation improved the MMA landscape in the Balkans with BRAVE CF 69, the most international MMA promotion made a triumphant return to Europe with BRAVE CF 70 / WFC 25, which was held in Ljubljana tonight.
The 20th visit by BRAVE Combat Federation to the "Peninsula of Peninsulas" brought sixteen professional mixed martial artists from around the world, who came to Central Europe to take advantage of a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to display their skills under the dazzling BRAVE CF lights.
The event, which was made possible by the prominent regional organisation WFC, featured four fantastic finishes, leaving fans feeling more than content that they had seen some of the best MMA action in Central Europe.
Marko "Lion Heart" Drmonjic of Slovenia, who had competed in 22 fights, ended his illustrious career in the main event when Erko Jun of Bosnia and Herzegovina knocked him out. Drmonjic's front-foot attacks were blocked by Jun's initial attacks on the senior Slovenian's legs. The battle was subsequently declared over and Jun's great career came to an end as he delivered a precisely timed and directed right hook that knocked "Lion Heart" to the ground.
In the co-main event, Germany's Joilton Lutterbach battled against Sweden's natural Middleweight Andreas Gustafsson Berg at Super Welterweight, displaying his warrior spirit, technical skill, and strength.
Gustafsson Berg attempted to utilise his strength from the opening bell by crowding the naturally Super Lightweight Lutterbach in an effort to control the German's aggressive striking. The Swedish man frequently made an effort to close the gap and start a wrestling match. Soon after entering the encounters, Lutterbach felt at ease and used his Judo, Luta Livre, and Jiu-Jitsu prowess to thwart the Swedish man's strategy.
Lutterbach dominated his opponent in the striking and wrestling exchanges for the majority of the fight, but the German acknowledged that moving up two divisions is no easy feat given Gustafsson Berg's brute strength and the fact that his weight was pretty taxing on the top contender for the BRAVE CF Super Lightweight title.
“Hey Eldar, if you want to, let’s fight at the end of the year. Let’s go to Colombia or Brazil, anywhere. I am ready for you, ” said Lutterbach.
A potential star was initially introduced at the opening Bantamweight match. Late substitute Vitaliy Yakymenko defeated India's top-ranked 135-pound athlete, Mohammed Farhad, over the course of three rounds, pulling off one of the biggest upsets in BRAVE CF history.
Ruel Panales of the Philippines had been scheduled to compete against Farhad, but the Filipino withdrew just days before the presentation, giving the opportunity to the young Ukrainian, who seized it with both hands.
Yakymenko patiently took down Farhad with excellent timing and takedowns, then went to work using excellent top-control wrestling, patience, and strategic striking. Farhad was dealt a brutal beating by the 26-year-old and was unable to come up with any defences for his Ukrainian opponent.
