Bella Mir, daughter of former two-time UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir, is forging her own legacy in mixed martial arts while proudly carrying the torch for her family name.
The 22-year-old prospect, who is preparing for her fourth professional MMA bout on Sunday, is embracing the dual roles of fighter and legacy-bearer. Known for her background in wrestling and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, Mir has long admired her father’s storied UFC career but says she now finds even greater meaning in continuing that legacy.
“I think a lot of people that have parents that were really great, especially like my dad, want to build their own legacy,” Mir told MMA Fighting. “But I just love being a part of his, and I love that he gets to be a part of mine, too.”
Frank Mir, who captured UFC titles and headlined some of the promotion’s most memorable events, remains a central figure in Bella’s life and career — not only as a father, but now as a coach and mentor. She revealed that he often tells her that her success means as much to his legacy as any championship belt.
“I feel like creating my own was my way of escaping his shadow,” Bella said. “But now it’s like I feel like [he’s] bringing me up and it’s just cool to be a part of.”
As MMA continues to mature as a sport, the emergence of second-generation fighters is becoming more prominent. Bella Mir is among the first wave of fighters from championship bloodlines to step into the cage, and she welcomes the attention that comes with it.
She also acknowledged the curiosity fans have about another famous MMA offspring — Mya Lesnar, daughter of former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar. Given the storied rivalry between Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar, fans have speculated about the potential for a symbolic trilogy fight — this time between their daughters.
“It’s funny you say that about Mya Lesnar. The amount of people that have asked me if I want to fight her and do the Brock Lesnar-Frank Mir trilogy but in daughter form,” Bella said. “I know Dana [White] would 100 percent approve of that if Mya was fighting.”
Though Mya Lesnar is currently excelling as a national champion track athlete at Colorado State, Mir floated the idea of a future showdown, should Lesnar decide to step into the world of MMA.
“She’s athletic. She’ll get it down. She trains for a year? That would be insane,” Mir said. “Maybe the universe knew her and I were going to finish that trilogy fight, so they didn’t have our dads finish it.”
For now, Bella is focused on her career and steadily rising through the ranks. With eyes on a future UFC contract, she’s training under the guidance of her father and managing the pressure that comes with her last name.
“I never feel the pressure, I just live in the moments and I absolutely love what I do,” she said. “My dad’s super good when it comes to mindset and mentality. He’s always taught me, ‘you’re not in my shadow, you’re my legacy.’”
As her MMA journey continues, Bella Mir remains one of the sport’s most intriguing young prospects — determined to honor her family name while carving her own path in the cage.
