Japanese grappling sensation Ayaka “Zombie” Miura is set for a surprising move down to atomweight, taking on compatriot Itsuki “Android 18” Hirata at ONE 165: Superlek vs. Takeru on January 28 in Tokyo. Initially surprised by the offer, Miura consulted with mentors before confidently accepting the challenge, expressing gratitude for the chance to compete in two divisions. While considering a potential pursuit of becoming a two-division World Champion, her primary goal remains defeating reigning strawweight MMA queen “The Panda” Xiong Jing Nan.
Miura's move to atomweight offers the prospect of fresh opponents and a shot at gold in the new weight class. However, her focus remains on her main goal. She appreciates the opportunity but emphasizes, "My goal is to be a World Champion, and it hasn’t come true yet. Until I reach this goal, I will keep doing it. I cannot stop this until I make my dream come true."
Facing Itsuki Hirata, a 24-year-old model and martial artist, Miura acknowledges her talent but questions her commitment to fighting alongside modeling. Miura believes her extensive training at Tribe Tokyo MMA sets her apart, stating, "I feel I am better than her. I’ve been doing it for a long time under hard circumstances at Tribe Tokyo MMA. I’ve managed to make it this far from zero, where there was no spotlight on me at all. I guess I have more guts."
Known for her trademark "Ayaka Lock," Miura is ready to showcase her diverse skill set and durability in the atomweight division. While emphasizing her confidence in various techniques beyond the "Ayaka Lock," she attributes her readiness to rigorous training at Tribe Tokyo MMA.
With faith in her abilities and determination, Ayaka Miura is poised to make a significant impact in the atomweight division at ONE 165.
