ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong pulled no punches in his assessment of former heavyweight champion Arjan Bhullar following his disqualification loss at ONE Championship 166.
Speaking at the post-event news conference in Lusail, Qatar, Sityodtong minced no words as he criticized Bhullar's performance, labeling it "unacceptable" and "deeply disappointing."
Addressing reporters, Sityodtong stated, "There’s just no excuse. What Arjan did is just unacceptable at ONE Championship." He continued, "That’s the first time in the history of the company that we’ve ever issued a red card on timidity. He didn’t want to fight. And if you don’t want to fight then why are you a professional fighter? And you definitely don’t belong in the pinnacle of martial arts. I was deeply disappointed in Arjan, and I think he let down India. India will no longer look at him as a hero."
Referee Herb Dean's repeated warnings to Bhullar during the fight indicated the need for more engagement from the former heavyweight champion. Despite multiple warnings and penalties, Bhullar's inactivity persisted, ultimately leading to his disqualification in the third round.
The defeat marked Bhullar's second consecutive loss after relinquishing the heavyweight title to Anatoly Malykhin at ONE 166 in June 2023.
