Amanda Ribas is gearing up for what she hopes will be a career-defining moment as she steps into the octagon against former two-time strawweight champion Rose Namajunas in the main event of UFC on ESPN 53 on March 23.
Ribas (12-4 MMA, 7-3 UFC) has long desired a matchup with Namajunas (11-6 MMA, 9-5 UFC), and her dream will finally come true at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. This pivotal bout, set for five rounds in the women’s flyweight division, carries immense significance for Ribas, who sees it as a major milestone in her career trajectory.
Reflecting on the upcoming fight, Ribas expressed gratitude for the opportunity, acknowledging that if someone had predicted she'd be headlining a card against Namajunas five years ago, she wouldn't have believed it. However, she's now focused on manifesting success in the octagon, aiming to translate her training efforts into a big win.
“I’m training really well, and I just hope that I can get this big win,” Ribas told Stake.com.
The 30-year-old fighter has previously competed in both the strawweight and flyweight divisions in the UFC. While she initially intended to stick to strawweight after her last victory over Luana Pinheiro in November, the opportunity to face Namajunas was too significant to pass up.
Preparation for the fight has been intense for Ribas, who recognizes the challenges posed by Namajunas, particularly her cardio and speed. Ribas emphasized the need to specialize in conditioning for the bout, aiming to conserve energy and maintain distance against her opponent's formidable skills.
Anticipating victory, Ribas envisions stopping Namajunas within three rounds while minimizing damage to herself. With a potential win, Ribas eyes a quick turnaround to compete at UFC 301 on May 4 in Rio de Janeiro, seeking to capitalize on momentum and secure a bonus.
“I can stop her with my distance and my striking, so I think that I will knock Rose out in the third round,” Ribas confidently stated.
