Bellator Welterweight champion Yaroslav Amosov is hopeful that the conflict in Ukraine will end soon. Currently undefeated in his professional MMA career, Amosov is currently busy fighting for his country and had made headlines when he retrieved his title belt from his home.
The ongoing situation forced him to pull out from his upcoming title fight as well which in turn forced Bellator MMA to book an interim title fight. Speaking about the same, Amosov noted that he is hopeful of defending the title once the war ends.
“They made a fight for the interim title. It doesn’t matter to me. I will wait for the war to end and defend my title. I hope we will be able to return to our homes, (and) there will be peace on our land. The sun will shine, we will smile, and everything will be fine,” he said (h/t MMA Fighting).
He also addressed the viral video of him retrieving the title.
“During the first days of the war, my mother stayed at home. But when it became dangerous, I ran to her and persuaded her to leave. And when my mom was packing, she hid the belt in the basement. It’s good that she did it, because I was at her house. During the occupation, looters were there and destroyed her apartment. My family is safe. I came to my wife and son. We rested. Now I will return to Irpin,” the Bellator Welterweight champion noted.
Amosov is the first Ukrainian-born champion in Bellator and holds a record of 26-0 to his name. What do you think of the situation? Let us know in the comments below.
