Indian boxer Karthik Satish won the WBC Asia Silver Lightweight Title last day at the Hell’s Bay Boxing Event from The Indian Art Revolution in Hyderabad. Karthik went up against Heru Purwanto of Indonesia in an eight-round battle and emerged victorious through a decision.
After a slow start, Karthik shifted gears in the later round which proved to be the game-changer in the fight. Hailing from Tamil Nadu, Karthik also kept his undefeated professional boxing record intact with the victory. He was 7-0 in his boxing career heading into the bout and with the win, he has now improved to 8-0 and is bound to make a huge leap in the WBC India rankings.
In the post-fight interview, Karthik noted that he and his team were able to execute the game plan perfectly, and changing pace in the later rounds was what they planned heading into the bout. He also thanked Heru for giving a good match.
Coach and promoter Mujtaba Kamal noted that Professional boxing in India is on a rise and added that more champions will be created from the Indian soil going forward.
Elsewhere, in the co-main event, the inaugural WBC India champion was crowned as Sabari captured the WBC India Welterweight title with a win over Akashdeep Singh. Sabari secured a decisive victory in the fight and improved his professional record to 5-1 and is currently on an impressive five-fight winning streak as well.
