Shabarish secured the first win for Team India at the IMMAF World Championship 2021 today as he outclassed Hasan Abdulla of Bahrain in a Strawweight contest.
Shabarish, who trains out of Combat Kinetics in Tamil Nadu, had earlier secured his spot in the IMMAF World Championships by winning the MMA India Nationals which was held in Indore last year.
He had the upper hand in the fight from the start itself and managed to put his wrestling and clinching skills to good use to outclass Hasan throughout the three rounds before the judges ruled the fight in his favor via a decision. Shabarish will now face Yerulan Kabdulov of Kazakhstan in the quarter-finals.
Elsewhere, former Junior IMMAF World Champion Mahboob Khan had a tough outing as he suffered a decision loss to Dastan Zhakypbekov of Kazakhstan. Mahboob had his share of success on the foot but Dastan managed to land a few takedowns in the match which turned the fight in his favor on the Judges’ scorecard after three rounds.
