Indian boxing star Vijender Singh suffered the first defeat in his professional boxing career as he was defeated by Artysh Lopsan of Russia via a fifth-round TKO at the Battle on Ship event which was held in Goa.
Vijender, who was making his return to the ring after a long gap, faced troubles from the start itself but managed to drop his Russian counterpart with just seconds to go in the second round. However, Lopsan came back strongly in the third and fourth. He managed to drop Vijender multiple times in the fourth and finished the fight in the fifth round after Vijender was unable to continue.
The Indian’s last fight came against Charles Adamu at the Caesars Palace Dubai back in 2019 which he had won via a unanimous decision. It was back in 2015 that Vijender made his professional boxing debut against Sonny Whiting and he went on to build a record of 12-0 in the five years that followed.
Lopsan, on the other hand, improved to 5-1-1 in his professional boxing career. He came into the fight with Vijender Singh on the back of a win against Yusup Magomedbekov back in December 2020 and will now be looking to continue his good run when he fights next.
The co-main event of the show saw Neeraj Goyat locking horns against Sandeep Kumar. The four-round bout had a solid amount of action with Neeraj dictating the pace for the major portion. Minutes into the fourth-round, Neeraj managed to get a stoppage win with a body shot and improved his record to 12-3-2.
Karthik Sathish also impressed with the card as he picked up a decision victory. Digari Mahesh and Umesh Chauvan also picked up victories in their respective fights. Mahesh got a win over Kuldeep when Umesh outclassed Mathiyalagan Dhiravidamani.
