UFC rolled out UFC Vegas 44 today and as expected, the event had some exciting fights on offer. Jose Aldo and Rob Font locked horns in the main event and had a quick start. Font was having the upper head early on but Aldo managed to get his momentum back towards the end of the first round. This momentum was carried out into the second round as well.
The iconic leg kicks from Aldo were on display in the third round although the Brazilian's eye was swollen up which was causing troubles. A fired-up Aldo came out swinging in the fourth round and spent most of the round on top of Font on the ground. Font tried to outclass Aldo with cage pressure in the fifth round only to see Aldo bounce back. The former UFC champion captured the back of Font and pushed for a submission but failed to do so before the round ended. In the end, the judges ruled in favor of Aldo via a decision.
Jose Aldo came into the fight with wins over Pedro Munhoz and Marlon Vera in his last two fights. Rob Font, meanwhile, was riding high on a four-fight winning streak having defeated Cody Garbrandt, Marlon Moraes, Ricky Simon, and Sergio Pettis.
In the co-main event, Rafael Fiziev and Brad Riddell delivered an exciting fight. It was Fiziev that came out on top in the last round as he managed to stop Brad after landing a huge kick. With the win, Fiziev improved his winning run to five fights. Jamahal Hill made quick work of Jimmy Crute and secured a first-round knockout victory. This proved to be a great comeback for Hill who had suffered the first loss of his career in his last fight when he lost to Paul Craig. As for Crute, he is now on a two-fight losing streak having lost his last fight to Anthony Smith.
Clay Guida secured a huge win as he submitted Leonardo Santos in the second round. This was the second-straight loss for Leonardo when Guida managed to bounce back strongly from a loss in his last fight. Chris Curtis stopped Brendan Allen in the second fight of the main card. Alex Morono, on the other hand, outclassed Mickey Gall to take home a unanimous decision victory in the main card opener.
