UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Shahbazyan ? Post Fight Quotes from winners

After an incredible month on Fight Island, UFC returned home to Las Vegas and the Apex Arena on Sunday, August 2, with UFC Fight Night: Brunson vs. Shahbazyan.

The main event saw Derek Brunson get a huge win over Edmen Shahbazyan after stopping the youngster in the third-round via a TKO. In the co-main event, Jennifer Maia secured a submission win over Joanne Calderwood as well. Below is what the winners had to say after their respective fights.

Derek Brunson:

“This fight was hard. All the people doubting me on social media. I had so much support—way more than the negative. I’m 3-0 with Sanford MMA and Henri Hooft. Ever since I’ve gone down there, he’s believed in me. He’s always said, ‘You’re not a gatekeeper. Show these guys you’ve got it.’ I’m ecstatic right now. I miss my family so much. My kids are everything to me. I was away for four weeks straight. I want to go and kiss my family.”

Jennifer Maia:

“I’m feeling amazing right now. I put in a lot of work and it showed in my performance. I always train a lot of Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai, but I showed I can do both. Ever since I got in the UFC, I’ve never had an easy fight. I always test myself in those fights. I’m happy the champion is talking about me. I’m ready to fight for the title.”

Bobby Green:

“My kids are not going to be fighters or anything like that—hopefully not. I think my daughter might be. She might be the next Ronda Rousey. I just want them to know I’ve been through everything. I was in foster care since I was four years old. I’ve seen some dark days. I’m here just to motivate people. I just want to tell people to love each other and that you can do it.”

Vicente Luque:

“That (knee was) something I was working on, especially after he started weaving from my punches. I finish fights. When I see the opportunity, I go for it. I’m a young guy. I’m only 28 right now. The more I fight, the more I evolve and improve my game. I would call out Nate Diaz. He only wants super fights, but if we follow the rankings, I’m right above him. That would be a great fight.”
