UFC finally returned this weekend with UFC 249 and as expected, the fight card delivered big time.
The show was headlined by the interim UFC Lightweight title fight between Justin Gaethje and Tony Ferguson which went in favour of Gaethje after he managed to stop Ferguson in the fifth round.
Gaethje had a dominant performance from the start itself and did not give Ferguson the space to stage a comeback. After the win, he noted that the next fight that he wants is with Khabib Nurmagomedov for the title while Ferguson said that he is ready to make a quick return.
In the co-main event, Henry Cejudo retained the UFC Bantamweight title by stopping Dominick Cruz. Cruz and Cejudo had an interesting fight while it lasted and the end started when Cejudo managed to catch Cruz with a knee. The champion then followed up with more than ten unanswered shots which made the referee stop the fight.
After the fight, Cejudo revealed that he was retiring from MMA much to the shock of everyone.
Elsewhere, Francis Ngannou made quick work of Jairzinho Rozenstruik with a vicious 20-second knockout when Calvin Kattar also got a stoppage win over Jeremy Stephens. Greg Hardy and Yorgan De Castro went the distance much to the surprise of many with Hardy getting a unanimous decision win.
Anthony Pettis got the better of Donald Cerrone in the featured fight in Prelims while Alexey Oleinik, Carla Esparza, Vicente Luque, Bryce Mitchell and Ryan Spann also secured wins in their respective fights.
