Shushila Likmabam, who was the lone representative in Judo for India at the Tokyo Olympics bowed out of the tournament today after suffering a defeat in the Round of 32.

Shushila went up against Eva Csernoviczki of Hungary on Saturday and went down to a score of 10-0. Eva, who had won the bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, had a comfortable showing in the 48 KG category showdown which happened at the Nippon Budokan Arena in Japan.

The 26-year-old Shushila had earlier qualified for the Olympics through the Continental Quota after the Indian team was not able to compete at the Qualifiers due to two athletes testing positive for COVID-19.

Hailing from Manipur, Shushila is a former Commonwealth Games medallist having won the Silver Medal in Glasgow back in 2014. She was one of five athletes from Manipur that qualified for the Tokyo Olympics.

Apart from Shushila, a string of other combat sports athletes are representing India at the Tokyo Olympics as well. Bhavani Devi will be the first and lone representative in fencing for India at the event when India will have 9 representatives in Boxing and 7 representatives in wrestling this time around.
