The first edition of Strangle Open was hosted at Rebel MMA this past weekend and the event had plenty of action on offer. The event saw competition across three categories with prize money up for grabs for the winners of each category.
In the Women’s Open Weight category, Monika Ghag took home the first position. Fighting out of Home of Warriors, Monika managed to outclass Proma Chatterjee of AKA Mandrem in the finals when Aishwarya PV of Combat Kinetics finished third.
AKA Mandrem’s Atharva Deshmukh came in on top in the Men’s 66 KG Category when Mairidin Newmai of The Combat Academy Nagaland finished second. Shabad Agnihotri of AKA Mandrem completed the top three in the division.
Elsewhere, Ravi Bharathi of the Institute of Jiu-Jitsu topped the Men’s -77 KG Category followed by Udit Narayan of Fitness and Fight Club and Prakhar Subba of Primal MMA.
Following the event, the Strangle team put out a statement on social media thanking the athletes, coaches, and spectators.
“We thank all the teams, athletes, and spectators who showed up and made Strangle Open an incredible story of success. The fighters fought bravely and brought their will to mirror their skill, the coaches and spectators were incredibly supportive and created a thrilling atmosphere.
This is just the beginning of the BJJ competition circuit in India and we’re fully committed to building it up from the grassroots. Hopefully, this debut edition of Strangle inspired a lot of up-and-coming grapplers to gain the invaluable experience of competitive grappling.
