ONE Championship has been making huge strides in India when it comes to promoting Mixed Martial Arts. The promotion is currently home to a long list of Indian MMA stars and it would only be a matter of time before we see one of the Indian fighters getting their hands on ONE championship gold.
While the events from ONE Championship are on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, ONE championship Chief Commercial Officer Hari Vijayan was interviewed by multiple media outlets where he detailed the plans that the promotion has for India.

In his interview with the Bridge, he noted that there are plans to bring the ONE Hero Series to India which will see ONE Championship partner with local gyms and promotions at a grass-root level.
“India is a core strategic market for ONE that we are investing in for the long term from a reach, frequency and engagement standpoint as well as talent standpoint too. As mentioned, we hope to continue investing and signing new Indian talents and bring our ONE Hero Series content stack to India soon,” he noted in his interview with The Bridge.
For the uninitiated, ONE Hero Series will see local fighters competing against each other for a spot in ONE Championship and will serve as a strong platform to grow the sport at the regional level.
Hari Vijayan also added that there has been a rise in viewership for ONE championship over the past 12 months and stressed on the storytelling aspect.
“In the 12 months, we have seen our viewership increase almost 30 times. We also have our Indian heroes like Ritu Phogat or Arjan Bhullar, so there is a lot of national pride. We think martial arts is just getting started in India, we are creating a platform and a young cool vibe and we are doing it through storytelling. From day ONE our mission has been to unleash real-life superheroes who ignite the people with dreams and hope. We are not selling fights, we are asking people to watch fights. We are selling inspiration. We are having people in India, seeing stories of their role models,” he added in his interview with Hindustan Times.
