The fight between Khamzat Chimaev and Leon Edwards will not be happening at UFC Fight Island 8 after Khamzat was forced to withdraw from the showdown. The news was first reported by FrontKick and the reason for the withdrawal of Khamzat is yet to be revealed officially.

The fight was originally set to happen on December 19, 2020, in Las Vegas but was later moved to the UFC Fight Island card after Edwards tested positive for COVID-19.

It was supposed to be the first match for Leon Edwards after his dominant decision victory over Rafael Dos Anjos back in July 2019. He is currently riding on an eight-fight winning streak having defeated the likes of Donald Cerrone, Gunnar Nelson, and Vicente Luque among others.

Khamzat, on the other hand, has been one of the biggest talking points of 2020. He secured three back-to-back wins in the UFC having defeated John Phillips, Rhys McKee, and Gerald Meerschaert with a time span of just three months.

It is currently unclear whether UFC will rebook the fight or find a new opponent for Leon Edwards for the Fight Island event. What do you think of the development? Let us know in the comments below.
