Dwayne The Rock Johnson is hands down one of the biggest Hollywood stars at the moment. He transitioned into movies after a successful career in professional wrestling with WWE but did you know that The Rock considered taking up MMA back in 1997?

Speaking to ABC, Johnson revealed that he considered taking up MMA when his wrestling career was going through a slow run.

“There was a point in 1997 where I considered going to Japan to train to begin an MMA career when my wrestling career was failing miserably. I would have gotten my face smashed in and I like my jaw where it's at,” he said.

A long list of names has competed in both professional wrestling and MMA with the most notable one being Brock Lesnar who went on to become the UFC Heavyweight champion. CM Punk, Bobby Lashley, Shinsuke Nakamura, Jake Hager among others have also competed in both MMA and professional wrestling.

As for The Rock, he has inked a new partnership with the UFC which will see UFC athletes and their corners sporting the Project Rock Footwear.

"UFC athletes are amongst the greatest, toughest, focused, most disciplined, and hardest training athletes on the planet. Every walk to the iconic Octagon by a UFC fighter is fueled with passion, mana, and the deep desire to establish their dominance and legacy. I am proud, grateful, and humbled that my innovative Project Rock training shoe is now the official global footwear partner of UFC,” he said.
