Blaseibok Kharbuli of India secured a bronze medal for India at the IFMA Senior Muay-Thai Championship 2022 which happened in Abu Dhabi from 26 May 2022 to 4 June 2022.
Hailing from Meghalaya, Blaseibok, who competed in the under-23 male -48 KG category, suffered a loss in his lone fight in the tournament but managed to secure the bronze. He went up against Mohammad Rifdean Bin Masdor of Malaysia in the semi-final match-up and suffered a referee stoppage loss. Mohammad went on to win the Gold Medal in the category as well.
India had a total of 19 athletes for the IFMA Senior Muay-Thai World Championship this time around. Though the fighters produced a good effort, the team did not manage to secure any wins in the tournament.
Apart from Blaseibok, Diba Rajak finished fifth in the U-23 Female -60 KG category when SKhemborlang Marwein also had a similar finish in the U-23 Male -51 KG category.
Amrith Krishna went the distance with Aldrich Toralba of the Philippines and put on a solid performance in the U-23 Male -54 KG category before suffering a decision loss. All the other Indian fighters suffered either stoppage or walk-over losses in their respective bouts.
Elsewhere, Thailand topped the IFMA Senior Muay-Thai World Championship medal standings with 5 Gold Medals, and four silver medals. United Arab Emirates came in second with four gold medals, four silver medals and three bronze medals when Malaysia completed the top three. Malaysia secured four gold medals and one silver medal. India was in the top-35 thanks to the lone bronze medal.
