Team India wins 5 Medals at 2024 GAMMA MMA World Championships

The 2024 GAMMA World Championships, held from December 8 to 14 at the Dewa MMA Arena in Banten, Indonesia, concluded with remarkable performances from athletes around the globe. India’s contingent made a significant impact at the competition, showcasing their skill in both Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) and Striking MMA events.

The event featured two disciplines for the senior competition – MMA and Striking MMA – both under amateur rules. The championships attracted top athletes from 37 nations, highlighting the international growth of the sport under the banner of the Global Association of Mixed Martial Arts (GAMMA).

India’s athletes earned multiple medals across various categories. Notably, Rosa Roshini John made an impressive showing, securing a silver medal in the Women’s 72.6 kg MMA division. She added a bronze in Women’s 72.6 kg Striking MMA, showcasing her versatility and skill in both aspects of the sport.

In addition to Rosa’s success, Vijay Yadav earned a bronze in the Men’s 52.2 kg MMA division, and Tafazul Rahman Khasim Janab followed suit with a bronze in the Men’s -93 kg MMA category. These podium finishes reflect India’s growing strength in international MMA competitions.

Another standout was Mohammed Imamuddin, who secured a bronze in the Men’s -74.9 kg Striking MMA division. These achievements contribute to India's strong presence in the global MMA landscape and its rising talent pool.

India’s total medal tally at the championships included 5 medals: 1 silver and 4 bronzes. The medals were earned in both MMA and Striking MMA disciplines, reflecting the country’s growing talent in combat sports.

The 2024 GAMMA World Championships, hosted by GAMMA’s Indonesian representative PB PERTACAMI, not only offered a competitive platform for elite athletes but also provided a significant boost to the recognition of mixed martial arts in international sports. With its continued participation in global events, GAMMA is advancing towards further international recognition, as seen in its involvement in previous editions of the African and Asian Games.

India’s strong showing at the 2024 championships reaffirms the country’s emerging dominance in MMA and serves as a testament to the potential for future success on the world stage.
