Wushu is a Chinese martial art that combines elements of traditional Chinese martial arts with modern fitness and performance techniques. The term "wushu" can be translated as "martial arts," and it encompasses a wide range of styles and traditions. Wushu training typically includes techniques for both empty-hand combat and weapons-based combat, as well as acrobatic and gymnastic movements.
Wushu originated in China and has a long history, with roots in the ancient martial arts traditions of the country. In the 20th century, wushu was modernized and standardized by the Chinese government, and it became a popular form of fitness and competition. Today, wushu is practised by millions of people around the world, both as a martial art and as a form of fitness and performance.
Wushu competitions are held at the national and international level, and are governed by the International Wushu Federation. In these competitions, athletes perform a series of choreographed routines that showcase their skills in empty-hand and weapons-based techniques, as well as acrobatics and gymnastics. The routines are judged by a panel of judges, who evaluate the athletes' technique, power, and control.
