James Gonzalez gets a win over Vikas Singh Ruhil at PFL Challenger Series

Indian MMA Fighter Vikas Singh Ruhil made history today as he became the first Indian fighter to compete inside the PFL Smartcage. James Gonzalez, however, played spoilsport as he picked up a first-round TKO victory against Vikas. 

James started on a strong note with his leg kicks when Vikas was pushing forward. The Indian tried for a takedown midway through the round only to see Gonzalez fend it off. Gonzalez then managed to catch Vikas with a punch which dropped the Indian. He followed this up with some ground and pound to finish the fight. 

Vikas, who trains out of Team Relentless in Mumbai, went up against James Gonzalez in a featherweight showdown at the 2023 PFL Challenger Series Week 6.

James "Alley Cat" Gonzalez, a native of New York, entered the first fight of the evening with four stoppage victories to his name when Vikas was riding high on a seven-fight winning streak. He was also making his return to the cage after a long gap of 2.5 years. He had competed in Ring of Combat, CFFC and MMA Platinum Gloves among others over his career which started back in 2014.

Prior to this fight, Vikas was seen competing at Matrix Fight Night where he was undefeated. In his last fight, he had secured a submission win over Kuldeep Singh Sekhon and after this, he took a break to complete his surgery. He has been an active name in the Indian MMA circuit since 2012 after transitioning from bodybuilding to MMA.

He was initially scheduled to compete with Igeu "Smiley" Kabesa on the card but the fight did not go through after Kabesa had visa issues.

Gonzalez, on the other hand, came into the fight on the back of a win at Bellator MMA recently. He took up the fight on short notice as well.

The 2023 PFL Challenger Series offers mixed martial artists the chance to win a potentially life-altering PFL contract.

By signing a PFL contract, fights go one step closer to winning the PFL Championship and a million-dollar payday. The 2023 PFL Challenger Series is broadcasted on Fubo Sports from the backlot of Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
