Indian MMA star Vikas Singh Ruhil has released a statement following his loss at PFL Challenger Series Week 6.
Vikas made history by becoming the first Indian MMA Fighter to compete inside the PFL SmartCage when he fought James Gonzales in Orlando today.
Gonzalez had never been knocked out in 14 professional fights, although Ruhil had won seven of his previous 10 contests. Gonzalez defeated Ruhil via TKO at the 4:20 mark of Round 1 after dropping him late in the round. Gonzalez attacked Ruhil while mounted to force the referee into a stoppage
After the fight, Vikas released a statement on his social media pages where he took complete responsibility for the loss. He also went on to note that he will be making a strong return.
“To all my teammates, to fans of MMA, to my loved ones, to my family and friends and to everyone who is disappointed. I take full responsibility of my loss. I made a serious error of judgement and the consequences in front of everyone. I am feeling sorry and not played as per expectations of everyone. But I learned so much from this loss. My thrive towards my goals still continue. I will surely bounce back and fight to make us proud till eternity.Jai Hind,” he wrote on his Instagram page.
This was the first loss since 2017 for Vikas and as a result, he has dropped to 12-6 in his professional MMA career. Despite the loss, Vikas is now part of the history books as he has already become the first-ever Indian MMA fighter to compete inside the PFL SmartCage.
Gonzalez, on the other hand, improved his record to 10-5 and is now on a two-fight winning streak. He had secured a win in his last fight at Bellator 282. The performance of Gonzalez, however, was not enough to earn him a contract as the PFL contract went to Brahyan Zurcher.
