Following the conclusion of its first event of 2024, the Professional Fighters League (PFL) has made a significant splash in the MMA world with its first major free-agent acquisition of the year.

Taila Santos, the former UFC flyweight title contender, has embarked on a new chapter in her career by signing with the PFL, as reported by OCP News on March 1. Santos's move to the PFL comes after her unexpected release from the UFC, following her last bout at UFC Singapore, where she faced Erin Blanchfield and suffered a decision loss.

Sources indicate that Santos will participate in the upcoming PFL 2024 season tournament, offering her the opportunity to vie for the coveted grand prize of $1 million. While the complete roster for the 2024 season has yet to be finalized, it is anticipated that the inaugural women's flyweight bracket will feature notable fighters such as former Bellator champion Liz Carmouche and emerging prospect Dakota Ditcheva. Notably, the PFL has already announced April 4 as the opening night for the women's flyweight division.

The announcement of Santos's signing has generated considerable buzz within the MMA community, particularly among fans who vividly remember her competitive showdown against then-UFC champion Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 275.

Reacting to the news, one fan couldn't help but recall Santos's impressive performance against Shevchenko, stating, "She beat Valentina."
