UFC Vegas 69 is in the books. On Sunday, February 19, UFC FIGHT NIGHT: ANDRADE vs. BLANCHFIELD was broadcast live from UFC APEX in Las Vegas throughout Asia. The highlights and supplementary information are summarised below to help you with your reporting.
Jessica Andrade, a former strawweight champion and the third-ranked flyweight, came in at the last minute to give Erin Blanchfield, rated #10, the fight of her life. Blanchfield rose to the challenge with a tight first round before introducing herself as a fresh face in the division by startling Andrade with a rear-naked submission early in the second.
"She hits really hard, but I got that clinch and I knew I could side trip from there so I took it. I'm glad I have the experience, I don't want to get hit as much next time. Give me the winner of Shevchenko versus Grasso next. I'm going to win the title and be the UFC champion."
Jordan Wright and Zac Pauga, two promising light heavyweight prospects, competed in a tight co-main event. Pauga won the decision after three difficult rounds of back-and-forth combat thanks to his cage wrestling dominance.
"It feels amazing, just to get on the board. Now I'll start racking them up. I started with throwing elbows, that's why I'm called 'Jack the Ripper', now I'm just learning how to punch. I need wins, but I want finishes. That's the next step of my career."
