The UFC will make its inaugural visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia this weekend, presenting a fight card that, despite recent alterations, remains one of the most notable Fight Night events of the year.
The event, taking place at the Kingdom Arena, features a main event in the middleweight division with significant championship implications. The restructured bout between Robert Whittaker and Ikram Aliskerov offers an intriguing matchup between a former champion and a rising contender.
Robert Whittaker, originally set to fight Khamzat Chimaev, rebounded from his UFC 290 loss to current champion Dricus Du Plessis with a unanimous decision victory over Paulo Costa earlier this year. Known for consistently facing top-tier opponents in the middleweight division, Whittaker accepted the change in opponents without hesitation.

Ikram Aliskerov, who was initially scheduled to fight newcomer Antonio Trocoli in Las Vegas, was selected to replace Chimaev and face Whittaker. The 31-year-old fighter, a product of Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS), has convincingly won his first two UFC matches and now faces a significant step up in competition.
The middleweight title picture is currently fluid, with the next championship bout yet to be announced and several fighters vying to solidify their standing. A decisive victory for either Whittaker or Aliskerov will bolster their case for a title shot and influence the dynamics of the upper echelon of the 185-pound weight class.
