UFC Perth Results: Carlos Prates Stops Jack Della Maddalena In Main Event

Carlos Prates delivered the biggest win of his UFC career after stopping former UFC welterweight champion Jack Della Maddalena in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Della Maddalena vs Prates at RAC Arena in Perth, Western Australia on Saturday.

Entering the bout as the No. 5 ranked welterweight contender, Prates put on a dominant performance against the hometown favorite. The Brazilian consistently shut down Della Maddalena’s offense while landing heavy knees and sharp strikes throughout the contest before securing a third-round TKO victory.

Following the win, Prates made his intentions clear about chasing UFC gold.

“We traveled 40 hours to come to Australia, my whole family is here. I’m not here to play,” Prates said after the fight. “I respect Jack, he’s great, but it’s just business. I can’t bring 30 people all this way just to lose. Who’s next? I want to fight the winner of the next UFC welterweight title fight.”

The result is expected to push Prates firmly into title contention in the welterweight division.

In the co-main event, Australia’s Quillan Salkilld continued his rise with an impressive first-round TKO win over veteran lightweight contender Beneil Dariush. Dariush found early success with his wrestling, but Salkilld capitalized on an opening during striking exchanges and finished the fight with punches at 3:29 of the opening round.

Salkilld later called for a matchup against ranked lightweight contender Mateusz Gamrot.

Elsewhere on the main card, Steve Erceg earned a unanimous decision victory over Tim Elliott, while Marwan Rahiki secured a first-round TKO finish against Ollie Schmid. Brando Peričić also picked up a highlight-reel knockout win over Shamil Gaziev in a bout that later earned Fight of the Night honors.

The UFC awarded Performance of the Night bonuses to Carlos Prates and Quillan Salkilld, while finish bonuses went to Marwan Rahiki, Brando Peričić, Junior Tafa, Wes Schultz, and Kody Steele.
