UFC 320 delivered a night of highlight finishes and record-breaking performances at T-Mobile Arena, where Alex Pereira reclaimed the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship with a brutal first-round stoppage of Magomed Ankalaev in the main event. The sold-out crowd of 19,081 generated a gate of $8,840,134.
Pereira wasted no time, walking down Ankalaev from the opening bell and neutralizing his offense before dropping him with a powerful shot. He followed with a barrage of strikes, forcing the referee to step in at 1:20 of Round 1.
“Vengeance is never a good thing. It’s kind of a poison,” Pereira said after the fight. “I told everyone I wasn’t in good condition last time; nobody believed it. Tonight, you saw it. I don’t like to make excuses, but I’ve been saying I wasn’t well that night. Tonight I’m very well. I had a whole speech prepared, but we got some news recently. I want to give my respect to Jon Jones and his whole family, and I want to ask everyone to take a moment of silence for his brother, Arthur Jones.”
In the co-main event, Merab Dvalishvili successfully defended his UFC Bantamweight Championship against Cory Sandhagen with a dominant unanimous decision (49-45, 49-45, 49-46). Sandhagen opened strong, but Dvalishvili turned up the pressure from Round 2, nearly finishing him and amassing a record 20 takedowns — the most ever in a UFC title fight.
“I feel like I’m just beginning,” Dvalishvili said. “Before, I was just a wild fighter with a big heart. But the technique—I’m keeping up. I almost knocked him out, and now I think people will respect my striking, too. Dana White, if you have a spot in December, I would love to make a quick turnaround.”
