UFC returns with UFC 287 this weekend. In a rematch of the middleweight championship, Alex Pereira will go for his first successful title defence against previous titleholder and No. 1 ranked contender Israel Adesanya.
Former welterweight championship contenders will also clash as current No. 5 ranked contender Gilbert Burns takes on No. 11 Jorge Masvidal.
Israel Adesanya vs. Alex Pereira Preview
Pereira (7-1, competing out of Danbury, Conn. by way of Sao Paulo, Brazil) astonished the world by dethroning Adesanya in November with a thrilling comeback KO. He is a former kickboxing champion with notable KO victories over Sean Strickland and Andreas Michailidis. Pereira now aims to secure his first successful title defence by destroying Adesanya once more.
Former champion Adesanya (23-2, fighting out of Auckland, New Zealand) intends to exact some vengeance on Pereira. He is regarded as one of the greatest middleweights in UFC history, with dramatic victories against Robert Whittaker (twice), Paulo Costa, and Anderson Silva. Adesanya is now hoping to reclaim the championship with another highlight-reel finish.
Jorge Masvidal vs. Gilbert Burns Preview
Burns (21-5, fighting out of Boca Raton, Fla. via Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is eager to return to the Octagon after defeating Neil Magny in January. Burns, a submission specialist with powerful hands, has previously defeated Tyron Woodley, Stephen Thompson, and Demian Maia. By defeating Masvidal, Burns aims to establish his claim for another title opportunity.
Masvidal (35-16, fighting out of Miami, Fla.) tries to steal the show in front of his hometown fans and kick off his 2023 campaign with a bang. He is a fan favourite and has won spectacular victory over Nate Diaz, Ben Askren, and Darren Till. Masvidal now hopes to re-enter the welterweight Top 10 with another spectacular KO.
