It was a shocker to the entire MMA community when Eduard Folayang noted that he was leaving Team Lakay. Folayang, who was one of the founders of the team, has been part of Team Lakay throughout his career and his decision to step away from all that was not easy.
Speaking to SCMP MMA recently, Folayang detailed about his decision to leave Team Lakay. The Filipino MMA star noted that it was a difficult decision and that a lot of young fighters were looking up to him.
“It’s really hard for me because a lot of those young fighters are looking at me. As much as possible I want them to focus on their goals. Sometimes I need to make decisions on my own. “\I really need to venture on this journey. I need to get out of my comfort zone as much as possible so I can see how I can grow in a new environment,” he said in the interview.
While it might be a long goal, Folayang is also hoping to get back into title contention.
“They call me the face of Philippines MMA. That’s a responsibility I must take seriously as a fighter. I don’t want to be stuck in my comfort zone. I want to be recognised as someone who tries everything to represent the country well. Another one of the goals I’m dreaming of is to be back in title contention. Of course it’s very difficult to think of it, especially in my position, but that’s one of the dreams that I have,” Folayang added.
Folayang has been on a slow run lately and will be looking to bounce back when he steps into the ONE Championship circle next.
