China's first-ever male MMA World Champion puts his ONE Featherweight MMA World Championship on the line against Dagestani submission specialist Shamil Gasanov in the main event of ONE Fight Night 43 on May 16, live from Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
Tang, 30, steps into the ring as one of the most dominant champions in ONE history. The Sunkin International Fight Club product carries a 19-3 career MMA record and an 8-1 ONE record, with five of those wins coming via finish.
Most remarkably, he remains undefeated in the ONE featherweight MMA division, a record that speaks to the level of excellence he has maintained since his arrival on the global stage.
Waiting to challenge that record is Gasanov, an 18-1 Dagestani grappler who trains out of Peresvet Fight Team and Tiger Muay Thai and carries a 6-1 ONE record into the title fight.
Tang is not about to underestimate the threat his challenger brings to the ring.
"He's a good wrestler, very well rounded. One of the best in the world. [It's] hard to say he has any weakness; I think he's good both with the striking and grappling. But I'm also confident with my hands, when I land it, it's over for anybody," the champion explained.
This fight shapes up as the ultimate stylistic collision between Tang's explosive boxing and Gasanov's relentless submission hunting.
Yet for all the tactical complexity that surrounds a featherweight title fight of this magnitude, Tang's winning formula has always come down to one defining moment.
"The timing of that one shot in the chaos, that's what I always do," he revealed.

"I would love to deliver a finish for the fans, but I'm also prepared for a five-round war. We'll see what happens. When we get in the ring, let's leave with no regrets," he said.
