Takeru Segawa To Be Honored At ONE SAMURAI 4 As Member Of ONE Hall Of Fame

Takeru Segawa's legacy has been given its ultimate recognition.

ONE Chairman and CEO Chatri Sityodtong announced that Japanese kickboxing hero Takeru will be inducted into the ONE Hall of Fame at ONE SAMURAI 4 in October, alongside a 10-gong salute to mark his retirement ceremony.

He will become only the fourth athlete to receive the honor, joining legendary MMA fighters Demetrious Johnson, Bibiano Fernandes, and Aung La N Sang.

Sityodtong made the announcement in the wake of Takeru's extraordinary farewell performance at ONE SAMURAI 1 on April 29, where the Japanese legend knocked down Thai megastar Rodtang "The Iron Man" Jitmuangnon four times to claim a TKO victory and the ONE Interim Flyweight Kickboxing World Championship in his retirement fight.

"I am thrilled to announce that Takeru will be inducted into the ONE Hall of Fame later this year, joining fellow legendary world champions Demetrious Johnson, Bibiano Fernandes, and Aung La N Sang. In addition to his Hall of Fame induction, Takeru will receive a 10-gong salute for his retirement ceremony at ONE Samurai 4 in October," Chatri said.

Takeru closes his career with a 46-5 record that includes 28 finishes and three victories inside the ONE ring. Before arriving in ONE Championship, he had already redefined the landscape of Japanese kickboxing by becoming a three-division K-1 Champion against some of the sport's finest strikers.

His Hall of Fame induction at ONE SAMURAI 4 provides a fittingly grand stage for the final chapter of a story that has captivated combat sports fans around the world.

The ONE boss left no ambiguity about where Takeru stands in the pantheon of Japanese combat sports.

"Takeru now retires as arguably the greatest Japanese kickboxer in history, first conquering Japan with titles in K-1 and then conquering the world with the most important world title in kickboxing on the world's biggest stage of martial arts in ONE," Chatri said.

ONE SAMURAI 2, the next instalment of the monthly Japanese series, will take place on August 8.
