At UFC 285, Tabatha Ricci successfully dispatched former championship contender Jessica Penne in the octagon for the first time.
When she arm barred Penne in the second round of their strawweight match at T-Mobile Arena, Ricci became the first fighter in Saturday's programme to end a fight within the distance.
From start to finish, "Baby Shark" appeared impressive, overwhelming Penne in every way till, at the 2:14 mark of Round 2, a last takedown to the mat put her in position to secure the submission for the victory.
After her victory over Penne, Ricci achieved her third straight victory in the octagon. At 115 pounds, the 28-year-old has some momentum on her side and believes huge things are in store for her.
Following the fight, Ricci noted that this was the start of the Baby Shark Era.
“This is the start of the ‘Baby Shark’ era,” Ricci told Joe Rogan in the post-fight interview after her submission win.
Prior to the fight, she had promised that she was out to give a show for the fans and Ricci did just that when she ended the fight with a submission.
Ricci has now moved to 8-1 in her professional MMA career and 3-1 in the UFC. The only loss that she suffered came against Manon Fiorot. In her last fight, she had outclassed Polyana Viana as well.
