Shavkat Rakhmonov believes his opportunity to compete for UFC gold is very soon.
A victory in his return to the octagon, according to the rising UFC welterweight contender, may place him very near to being given a shot at the title. Rakhmonov will face Geoff Neal at UFC 285 this coming Saturday at T-Mobile Arena. The primary pay-per-view card of the event will include a significant welterweight match.
Rakhmonov believes that if he defeats Neal he will only need a few victories to qualify for the championship bout.
“After this fight, maybe one or maximum two fights to fight for the title,” Rakhmonov told ahead of the fight this weekend.
Previously, a battle between Rakhmonov and Neal was planned for the UFC's first event of 2023 in January. Unfortunately, Neal got hurt and had to leave the game. Rakhmonov fought to keep the match, and he was successful. Rakhmonov had a straightforward motive for wanting to challenge Neal.

“He’s just higher in the rankings than me. He’s a good fighter, a good striker, and we’re going to check his skills and see how he’s going to approach the fight with me. The fight will show. I believe I’m favorite and I’m favorite for a reason. I’m undefeated, and I finished all of my opponents,” he added.
UFC 285 will be headlined by the return of Jon Jones who makes is heavyweight debut against Ciryl Gane. UFC Flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko will also be in action at the event as she tries to get another title defense on her resume when she fights Alexa Grasso in the co-main event.
