Shamil Erdogan Puts Perfect Record On Line Against Six-Second KO Artist Elliott

Shamil Erdogan is not taking Paul Elliott lightly, and he is making sure everyone knows it.

The undefeated Turkish heavyweight takes on the British knockout artist in the main event of ONE Fight Night 48 on Saturday, October 3, with the vacant ONE Heavyweight MMA World Championship potentially on the line for whoever makes the bigger statement.

Erdogan, 36, arrives as one of the most complete heavyweights in ONE Championship. The Dagestani-born star carries a perfect 13-0 career record and a 5-0 ONE record into the contest, with all five promotional victories coming via finish.

A wrestling superstar equally dangerous on the feet and on the canvas, Erdogan has dismantled every opponent put in front of him. But he is not allowing that resume to breed complacency against a man who has just produced one of the most electrifying finishes of the year.

"Paul Elliott is a very tough [and] strong fighter. I am not underestimating him at all. He's very good with his legs. He's very good on the feet," he said.

Elliott, 34, arrives in the most dangerous form of his career. The British fighter carries an 8-2 MMA record with all eight victories via finish, riding a two-fight winning streak that peaked with a staggering 6-second head kick knockout of Regan Upshaw in his most recent outing.

Erdogan has already mapped out exactly how the fight will unfold, and his prediction comes with a level of specificity that suggests thorough preparation.

"I'm predicting that this fight will end in the second round. In the first round, I'll drag him into deep water, and in the second round I'll try to finish him," he explained.

Beyond October 3, the bigger picture is never far from Erdogan's mind. The vacant ONE Heavyweight MMA World Championship represents the defining prize of his career, and the motivation to claim it is driving every session in the gym.

"Becoming a World Champion in ONE Championship [will be] a huge accomplishment, because I think this organization is the best in the world. I'm focused on winning the belt," he added.
