Road to UFC 2023 is set to feature eight weight classes and more than three Indian MMA Fighters. The same was revealed by Somesh Kamra during an interview with LockerRoom India.
Somesh has been working closely with the UFC in India for Road to UFC and noted that the current edition was a huge success.
The 2023 edition of Road to UFC is expected to commence in mid of 2023 and will have female weight categories as well as more weight categories for men.
“[Road to UFC] 2023 is even more exciting we have in total eight weight categories including female weight categories. For men, we have weight categories from the flyweight division which is 125 pounds all the way up to welterweight which is 170 pounds,” Somesh noted in the interview.
Speaking further, he noted that the next edition could feature fighters from Mongolia and Japan.
More Indian fighters to be featured in Road to UFC 2023
As far as Indian MMA fighters are concerned, more than three fighters from the country are expected to make the cut this time around.
“The first edition we only had two Indian Fighters This Time Around I don't have a cap on Indian Fighters I'm going to be scouting for as many Indian fighters to put on the circuit but hopefully we'll have at least four or five in the 2023 edition of Road to UFC,” Somesh added.
The success story of India’s Anshul Jubli has boosted the chances of Indian MMA fighters as per Somesh and he also dropped names like former ONE Championship star Roshan Mainam, GAMMA World Championship Gold Medalist Surbala Laishram and GAMMA Asian Champion Sumit Bhyan as some of the fighters that he is looking into.
Anshul is set to fight Jeka Saragih in the Lightweight finals of Road to UFC in February and a win for Anshul could also boost the chances of India hosting a UFC Live event in the near future.
