Indian MMA fighter Anshul Jubli is all set to fight in the semi-finals of Road to UFC against Kyung Pyo Kim of South Korea. The fight will happen on 23 October 2022 in Abu Dhabi and the winner of the fight will progress into the finals of the bracket.
Anshul, who had a very smooth weight cut, had his camp at SOMA Fight Club in Indonesia and Crosstrain Fight Club in Delhi. He is now out to prove that India is a land of Warriors.
“I’m very happy that I’m representing India in my journey. Road to UFC is a platform which has some of the best fighters from Asia. And there is an Indian fighter representing the nation. I want to show that… Whenever we go out, they ask whether there is MMA in India. Everyone thinks that either Indians are doctors or engineers, or they think that we work in hotels. We Indians are not projected outside as fighters,” Anshul said in an exclusive interview with LockerRoom India.
He further went on to add that the history of India is filled with warriors and that Indians should prove the same on platforms like Road to UFC.
“Our history has been filled with warriors. In our history, there have been people who showed the world what kind of breed we are. We must prove it once again? I will prove this at Road to UFC,” the Indian added.
The Future of Indian MMA is bright
Anshul competed in more than 13 amateur fights before turning professional and going 5-0 at Matrix Fight Night. In the quarter-finals of Road to UFC, he got a walkover in the fight after his scheduled opponent Sho Patrick Usami failed to make weight.
Anshul, who has been an active name in the Indian domestic MMA circuit, noted that the future of Indian MMA is bright. He said that there are plenty of fighters out there that are eager to make a mark on the global MMA circuit.
“Do support, because the nation is being represented. There are 130 Crore people in the country and one fighter is representing the country. And there are plenty of fighters from India who will slowly reach his platform. We will rule, not now, but in sometime. We will rule World MMA, the future of Indian MMA is very good, I can bet on this,” he concluded.
