Oumar Kane is already one of the most recognizable figures in combat sports. The entertainment world wants a piece of him too.
The ONE Heavyweight MMA World Champion has spoken about approaches from the film industry, revealing that two significant acting opportunities have come his way, both of which he was unable to pursue due to the demands of his fighting career.
The first came in the form of a martial arts film featuring Ciryl Gane, a project that appealed immediately to the champion's passion for the genre.
"I love movies, martial arts movies in particular. There was one starring Ciryl Gane called 'K.O.' The film studio asked me to be in the 'K.O.' movie with Ciryl Gane, but because I was injured, I couldn't do it," Kane said.
The second approach carried even greater weight. A Marvel film inquiry came his way, the kind of opportunity most people could only dream of. Kane, however, has a singular focus that even Marvel cannot disrupt.
"I was pitched to be in a Marvel film once, but obviously it takes a lot of time to film those movies. I couldn't take a year off of fighting while I'm still trying to be the greatest in MMA," he said.
That mindset has defined every step of Kane's rise. The 33-year-old Senegalese man carries a physical presence that translates naturally to the big screen.
With the heavyweight division firmly in his grasp and bigger fights on the horizon, diverting attention to a film set makes no sense right now. But Kane is clear that this chapter is not finished, merely postponed.
"As long as it doesn't interfere with my MMA career. When the time is right and the schedule fits, I'm definitely going to do it. Martial arts movies are my thing, and one day, I could see myself go into acting when I'm ready," Kane said.
